Nordic Audio Modern

Roger asked for a report from Nordic Audio Modern festival, so here we go. I apologize for my bad English – I had no luck to use it for years. Please forgive me if I gave wrong line-up of the festival. May be Rd was after DN or something like that.

The festival took place in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. It's rather small city with lots of old churches, good beer and very beautiful women. In Saturday they had some kind of holiday… Kozukas or something like that. The city was crowded and all it's central part was full of craftsmen and their goods… Club Mulen Ruzas is situated pretty close to the central part of the city, so we found no problem with finding a way to it. Good food, good prices, enough space for fans…

Girnu Giesmes has opened the festival. This is one-man project and it sounds like mix of ritual ambient. The beginning of the set was pretty good, but soon rhythmic ritual tracks were substituted by boring ambient stuff. The guy from GG wasn't a showman so he spent all the time behind his computer (surfing pornosites I guess :) Well, I decided not to wait until the end of the set and went for some beer. The second band was Donis. Well, I can hardly describe their music – it's professional but unoriginal… thousands of bands play around with noise on their computers, and Donis is a part of this huge crowd. Well, first two bands were from Lithuania. The third band was Latvian Claustrum.

Remember this name! Their set was a mix of military-style drumming, ambient and power electronics. Great backdrop video! On of the best I have seen so far. In fact Claustrum's set was the best on this festival. Kill me, but Swedes wasn't as good as Latvians. Watch out for Claustrum, they plan to re-release their old album on some European label and may be they will tour in Europe… at least I was told so. Then was Raison D'etre. I have seen the band two times so this time wasn't something unusual. Good old RD. I had no chance to listen to RD latest Cd, but it's set sounded very much like Empty Hollow… Lina came on the stage. He said that he has problems with his wife so his backdrop video was… yes, Swedish porno movie. In fact, it was very old. I have seen DN before as well, so I wasn't surprised by his music. Watching retro porno a bit boring, so I left for beer. Actually, club guards enjoyed the set a lot… something tells me that it wasn't industrial music they like.

Frankly, I came in Vilnius to listen to Institut. I just love their last album, so I wanted more. Unfortunately, Institut live wasn't good. I have expected more… something in vein of Genocide Organ set or something like that. Another highlight of the evening was a set of Bocksholm. I like their album a lot, and I'm really surprised why Roger hasn't released it through CMI. In my opinion it was one of the best albums of year. Well, Bocksholm's live set will be remembered in years not for music, unfortunately. It will be remembered by stage performance of two well-known Swedish persons. Lina, in fact, wasn't as drunk as he was in the beginning of the evening, so we can count him as a sober guy. On the other hand Peter was…

I know no right words to describe his condition. I know for sure that this amount of alcohol might kill. Peter was dressed in some kind of girly stuff, stockings and some strange shoos. He could hardly move and sometimes Lina had to kick him, cuz Peter was about to sleep right on the pile of his equipment. In fact, you just have to find a video from this festival – it's really funny and my English is too bad to tell you everything. In the end, Lina took Peter from the stage, but in a couple of minutes Peter came back. I guess Lina was too ashamed to return.

The show went on. Well, anyway Bocksholm was good! Error came on stage. It was almost 4 in the morning, so I was to tired to listen carefully. I don't like the music of Error. Nothing special. Shnare.sys was the last band. Don't ask me waht kind of music they play – I was almost in sleep. So, NAM was good event. I'm looking forward to visit more NAM festivals in future. I hope you like my report.
