Since I have a bare CDr with the music I want to ask you a bit about your latest album. Could you tell me about it's concept (if any) and about it's contents (just a little bit).

It is a concept album. More precisely, it is about the will of a being worn by the atmosphere that surrounds him. Worn of a society that doesn't resemble him and from which he wants to flee. "L'?tre las" tells of his deed. His choice to leave that whole of flesh and blood which stands as his envelope is described all along the album as a relief, as opposed to this society.

I can't read French so could you tell me a bit about your lyrics? And why do you use only French lyrics?

We always keep an atmosphere of death, depression or rejection. Our lyrics can’t reflect joy or happiness, for these feelings don’t belong to the way we deal with DS. We chose to use our mother tongue because it is the one we use to describe our pain, so it seems more sincere to us to use it to describe our inner thoughts…

I found that the recent album is more powerful and sometimes even has a military touch (in drums)? It's not so depressive as the previous one. Song #10 for example. Do you agree with me? Do you plan to explore this field in future or DS is dedicated to sad music only?

You’re right, this album has more "powerful" songs than the previous one. But DS is totally dedicated to sad music. Even if some riffs or songs are more powerful, the entire atmosphere will remain sad. Musically speaking, we haven't changed that much, the only difference is about the sound which is much better than on our 2 previous releases, especially concerning the acoustic elements like the violins or the drums and percussions, for which the sound captures were perfect. The voice is also more in the fore than formerly, but the general atmosphere is still as sad as before and the style of composition hasn't changed. You can still find as many acoustic songs ("Vie Eph?m?re", "Malveillance") as heavily sounding ones like we are now used to ("Loin des mortels", "L'envers du mirroir")...



It's time to tell me about people involved in DS. So, introduce yourselves, please. Who is your talented singer? She is great!

We all come from different horizons, from metal as well as from classical or traditional music. Ermia has indeed been replaced by Dame Pandora, but we didn’t experience any major trouble, since it has been done in good conditions and followed by more serious work than before. Dame Pandora has almost the same range of voice as the one we had before, and even more opera-like. We are fully satisfied with her efforts on pronunciation, which enable us to understand almost all the texts, which was not the case before, since Ermia’s voice was more “heavenly” and blurred by reverb during studio sessions.

Do any of you have side-projects?

Yes, Hylgaryss plays in Caithness (ambient) and I play in Aere Aeternus (indus/ambient).

What has influenced you to start a band?

The will to make sad music together...

And do you think that it worth your time, money, strength?

Of course, we have spent a lot of money since we started, but we did it consciously, and by pleasure of meeting up and share our music.

What makes you go on?

The will to know more about our destiny…

How do you see your progression over the years? What do you want to achieve in the end?

I like our progression, I think we always do a better job every time. The reviews are better with every new album and they sell more and more. It is somehow a reward for our work, for all the time we spend on DS. The end ? What end ? I wish the band carried on for the longest time possible. We don’t have any precise goal, not definite end… Just the will to transmit our feelings to the listeners… as long as we can afford it…
